Yamashiro and West Virginia trading blows at what I'm assuming is somewhere around 7,000 yards, that's basically knife-fighting range for battleships. Kinda feel bad for Fusou, getting torpedoed by USS Melvin

Everything is clear after this episode, this new "season" was never a historically accurate recreation of the battle of Leyte Gulf, it's a "what if" scenario in which Japan wins the battle.

A theory I see popping around is that this was all a dream of Shigure who spaced out and luckily survived the carnage like in real life.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HISTORICALLY ACCURATE BATTLE OF LEYTE GULF?!

I feel scammed and they got us in the first half, not gonna lie! So... this episode changes a lot of stuff, basically this new "season" is half historically accurate as it will portray a what if scenario where Japan wins at Leyte Gulf, which pretty much follows the theme of the Kancolle game itself.

For all of you that never played the game, Kancolle in game events are based around historic events and "what if" scenarios/operations where Japan wins at X battle, like for example in Midway and Leyte Gulf, among others.

So from what I can gather from this episode... yeah, Japan and the Imperial Navy are still screwed, but them winning at Leyte Gulf will give them the much desperate breath of fresh air they needed, it shows because many Ships are still sunk (Like Fubuki and others) and we apparently lost Yamashiro just now, which is still historically accurate.

Now... if I'm being honest, I'm I disappointed at this development? Not really, this anime is still depressing because of the overall tone and atmosphere, and I'm glad the girls have a fighting chance against the odds... and let's be honest, Azur Lane's anime adaptation had its insane moments like Unicorn flying in the air, I'm sure we can allow a Destroyer like Shigure give a jumping boost to a Battleship like Yamashiro.

Think about it: if Kurita and his Center Force pressed on against Taffy 3 and Shima coordinated his movements with Nishimura and followed right behind would the outcome be as it was portrayed in this episode?
